How to create categories
A category is a level of competition. It might not necessarily be the whole age group; instead, it could be a specific level of competition within certain age group.
Start by selecting "Categories" from the top menu:
- If you need to add categories, here's how to do it. Please note that if you have multiple categories with the same rules, create just one of them and then start copying it.
- Proceed to select "Add categories"
Please note that you are able to overwrite already existing categories if you use exactly the same category codes.
-
To create the categories select "Add categories"
Here's an example of the most common categories based on our database
Category code | Category name | Category pool/type |
U10B | U10 Boys | Boys |
U10G | U10 Girls | Girls |
U10M | U10 Mixed | Mixed |
U11B-M | U11 Boys Minors | Boys |
U11B-C | U11 Boys Colts | Boys |
ADULTS | Adults | Adults |
U12B-1 | U12 Boys 11.6. | Boys |
U12B-2 | U12 Boys 12.6. | Boys |
Columns explained:
- Category code=Can't be changed, must be unique and can't include special characters or spaces.
- Category name=Some organizers include a date into the name, if the tournament has multiple same kind of categories on different dates. For example "U12 Boys 11.6." and "U12 Boys 12.6."
- Category pool/type is mostly used for sorting/filtering purposes. For example, some categories can have their own button on the results site where only certain type categories are displayed.
If you are hesitant about the number of teams per category before opening the registrations, one way to address the issue is to create a "main level of competition," for example, "U10 Boys." Once the registrations have ended, you can contact us if you would like to create another category and transfer some of the teams to the new category. In these cases, we recommend using an "extra question" in the registration form so teams can express their interest in a specific level of competition. Click here for more information about the use of an "extra question".
Here's an example from Helsinki Cup
- Over 1800 teams are participating, so their methods have been well proven
- Click here to check how many categories they have (by default, categories are displayed on the results site under the "categories" button, but other types could be used, just like with the Helsinki Cup)
