Setting up the second stage with "Best placed" teams

Tournament organizers often have categories with an odd number of groups, for example, 15 teams with 3 groups of 5. This can make the second stage a little challenging for them. Not anymore!

We have built the best-placed team feature, and many of the setups in our new library include these configurations.

To learn more about our new way of creating groups and cups, you can watch this quick video. In the later part of this help guide, it is covered how details such as A/I, 2b2 should be interpreted.

The algorithm for comparing teams from different groups is based on the following criteria:

  1. Average points.
    1. This allows for the comparison of teams that do not have the same number of matches.
  2. Goal ratio.
    1. Goals scored divided by goals conceded, for example: 10 ÷ 5 = 2
  3. Goals scored per match.
    1. With 5 matches played and 15 goals scored in total, the average is 15 ÷ 5 = 3 goals scored per match.

(The logic is the same as with tie-break comparisons within a group: if positions can be determined, the subsequent comparisons are not used.)

The details used for drawing teams to the next (2nd, 3rd, etc.) stage can be found at the bottom of the 'Groups' tab.
